Head of State Rumen Radev took part in the “Sports for Sustainable Development” Summit, which took place in Paris on the eve of the start of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games. The Bulgarian President is in France on the occasion of the opening of the Olympics at the invitation of his French colleague Emmanuel Macron and of the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach The high-level meeting was held today under the hosting of Emmanuel Macron and Thomas Bach, the press center of the presidency announced.
The focus of the event was placed on the commitment to children’s health and education, increasing accessibility to physical activity, acquiring skills among youth through sports, increasing the well-being of citizens. At the forum, the participants supported the Paris Agreement on Sports and Sustainable Development, to which Bulgaria, represented by the country’s head Rumen Radev, joined. The agreement aims to contribute to progress towards the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through various commitments to promote sport.
Heads of state and government, international organizations, athletes and representatives of international federations, the Olympic movement, and the non-governmental sector took part in the high-level forum. The event was organized around five thematic panels as a symbol of the five Olympic rings and took place at the Louvre Palace.
Within the framework of the summit, President Rumen Radev spoke with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulet. The two discussed the good cooperation between Bulgaria and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, as well as the promotion of efforts to popularize the cultural and historical heritage among young people. The importance of sports for the upbringing and health of adolescents and the creation of conditions for their inclusion in various physical activities was the topic of the conversation between the head of state Rumen Radev and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Tomorrow, the head of state Rumen Radev, accompanied by his wife Desislava Radeva, will participate in the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games, in which our country will be represented by 46 Olympians in 16 sports.
