President Rumen Radev did not raise his fist from Mount Shipka, which he climbed on March 3 for the first time since 2021.
Just half a year earlier – on August 19, 2023, he defined March 3 as “the red line of our patience”. Then he announced from this peak a “people’s movement” in defense on March 3. After a few months, it became clear that Vesela Lecheva had registered the “Third March Movement” trademark. And all the observers were expecting a launch from “Dondukov” 2 of a presidential project. According to people in the know, the main group of current MEPs of the BSP, long an internal opposition to their leader, even initially counted on being candidates in June on behalf of a new formation under the wing of Radev.
However, the Eurovote is not the election for the president to bet on a project that has created such high expectations. Party members and political scientists are categorical about this.
The vote for Brussels does not raise an electoral wave in our country,
and it seems that, despite the major upheavals due to the rotation, the co-management of GERB and PP-DB will continue, at least for now. That is, at the moment there is no situation that justifies all the risks of the head of state setting something in motion two years before the end of his mandate. Unofficially, in recent weeks, those close to Radev have confirmed that no movement/party preparations are underway, and leading members of his initiative committee, who are seen as potential co-founders, have denied being involved.
So, quite logically, in today’s speech, the president did not give his supporters a sign that they can soon expect the start of such a project, with or without his (co)participation.
However, he gave them a sign that he saw them as the like-minded people he called more than a year ago and who responded.
“Today is a day to unite around our values, around the covenants of our ancestors. But
this year, we won’t hide it, is different from the others. And that’s why I’m here
to thank all of you for unitedly protecting our national holiday from encroachment. The light of your pure thoughts drove away the sticky political fog from the peaks of the Bulgarian past. And we will not forget that the preachers of nihilism and division yielded to the power of the Third of March not out of conscience, not out of respect for our history, not out of respect for the bones of our ancestors, but thanks to you, to your categorical determination, to the enormous many Bulgarians. That’s why I thank you!” said Radev.
Many chanted his name, and atypically, after today’s celebrations on his social networks, the president published, in addition to photos, a short clip in which he is wildly welcomed by the people.

Today is a time for national pride, not political gossip. This was said by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rosen Zhelyazkov, outside the booing and shouting of those Bulgarians who climbed Mt. Shipka.
And while Rumen Radev was applauded by them, the emotions surrounding the first in the state, such as Rosen Zhelyazkov, who is also the patron of the national holiday celebrations, turned out to be on the other side.

Thousands of Russian soldiers, hundreds of militiamen and doctors paid with their blood for Bulgarian freedom and statehood. The sanctity of this feat is especially felt here, in Shipka, from where I am sending you my congratulations today,” wrote Mitrofanova.
On Saturday, she got on Shipka and cynically commented on the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. “Don’t make me laugh, please! You understand – prison is not a sanatorium. He chose this fate for himself”, said Mitrofanova. He stated that he could not say anything about Navalny’s death. “I don’t think it’s what you think – Vladimir Vladimirovich has issued an order to remove it,” she added.

The leader of “Vazrazhdane” Kostadin Kostadinov brought to Shipka two deputies from the far-right German formation “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) – Rainer Rothfuss and Prof. Harald Weil.
Against the party, protests have been organized in Germany for weeks with the participation of millions of citizens.
“Vazrazhdane” flags were one of the few party flags that stood out at the celebration.

Regarding the future rotation in the cabinet, it became clear that the communication between him and Maria Gabriel is going normally. The agreement with GERB is awaited. Only then will it become clear how the final document will take shape.
