Just released, Runway has announced a turbo version of its new video generation service Gen-3 Alpha, up to seven times faster. The tool, which allows users to generate ultra-realistic ten-second video clips, is already available online.
OpenAI created a buzz in February with Sora, its artificial intelligence capable of generating ultra-realistic video clips. However, it is not unique. Runway had already launched its own video generation AI 18 months ago, called Gen-1. After a successful second version, the company publicly released the Gen-3 Alpha version of its AI six weeks ago, and has just launched a new much faster version: Gen-3 Alpha Turbo.
According to Runway, this new version is seven times faster at half the price. This means that, depending on the complexity of the video, it is possible to generate a 10-second video in about twenty seconds or even less. It’s almost real-time generation. This new model is already available on the Runway website.

A powerful model, but still expensive
With Runway’s AI, it is possible to either generate a video from simple text or animate an existing image, which will serve as either the first or the last frame of the video. This allows for the creation of the visualvisual universe with another AI, such as Stable DiffusionDiffusion, Midjourney, or Dall-E 3, before creating the video.
However, to use Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, you will need a subscription, starting at $12 for 625 monthly credits. It costs 5 credits per second of video (instead of 10 for Gen-3 Alpha), so 50 credits for a 10-second clip, which means about 12 or 13 videos per month, still a bit expensive. Runway is already announcing upcoming improvements. Hopefully, this will further lower the price.
