If you want to learn about mushroom cultivation and breeding techniques, knock on the door of the ‘Mushroom Officer School’. The Rural Development Administration (Administrator Kwon Jae-han) announced that it will accept applications for the ‘2024 Mushroom Officer School’ from September 3 to 13.

This training is a short-term program being promoted by the Rural Development Administration to help farmers settle down and to support the development of private breeders. This year’s training will be conducted from September 30 to October 2 at the Ginseng Specialty Crop Department of the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (Eumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do) in two parts: cultivation and breeding.

The ‘Mushroom Cultivation Class’ to be held on September 30th is open to anyone who wants to grow mushrooms, including returning farmers and students. Current and former mushroom experts will introduce △Understanding mushrooms △Cultivation methods by type △Problems and solutions in the cultivation field △Successful cases of returning to farming. In addition to theories, they will also introduce the smart mushroom cultivation research site to increase participants’ understanding and provide a wide range of learning opportunities.

The ‘Mushroom Breeding Classroom’, which will be held for two days from October 1st to 2nd, is limited to trainees who have mushroom cultivation experience and the facilities and will to develop actual varieties. The basics of breeding, including △Mushroom fungus management (preservation), △Spore collection and separation, △Mushroom strain hybridization, and △Confirmation of hybridization using a microscope, will be covered in theory and practice. In order to increase understanding of spawn (seed fungi), △Solid, liquid, and grain (cereal) spawn will also be made directly.

The ‘Mushroom Cultivation Classroom’ for the general public will be open from September 3rd to 13th on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 100 participants on the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science website (www.nihhs.go.kr).

For the ‘Mushroom Breeding Classroom’, you can download the application form from the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science website (www.nihhs.go.kr) during the same period and submit it by fax (043-871-5702) or e-mail ([email protected]). 16 people who can breed mushrooms, including farmers and mushroom breeders, will be selected, and the winners will be individually notified on September 24.

Mr. Gap-Yeol Jang, head of the mushroom division at the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science, Rural Development Administration, requested interest, saying, “Through the mushroom officer academy, we will help mushroom farmers settle down stably, and we will also contribute to expanding the industry by activating private breeding.”
