Rusdi Masse Resigns from NasDem After DPR Appointment

by Mark Thompson

Jakarta — A key figure in Indonesian politics, Rusdi Masse Mappasessu, has resigned from the NasDem Party, confirmed by the party’s General Treasurer, Ahmad Sahroni. This shift in allegiance raises questions about the dynamics within the DPR and potential realignments ahead of future elections.

A Political Shuffle in Jakarta

The resignation of a prominent deputy chairman signals potential shifts within the Indonesian political landscape.

  • Rusdi Masse Mappasessu has officially resigned from the NasDem Party.
  • Ahmad Sahroni confirmed the resignation, stating the letter was sent to the party’s DPP office in Cikini, Jakarta.
  • Speculation suggests Rusdi may join the PSI party, following a similar move by Ahmad Ali.
  • The resignation triggers an interim replacement mechanism (PAW) for Rusdi’s position in the DPR.

Sahroni confirmed the news, stating, “That’s right,” when asked about Rusdi’s departure. The resignation letter, according to Sahroni, has been submitted to the NasDem Party’s DPP office in Cikini, Jakarta, though he hadn’t personally reviewed it.

Rusdi previously took over Sahroni’s role as Deputy Chair of Commission III following demonstrations at the DPR in August 2025. Subsequently, Sahroni’s party faced repercussions, including a six-month inactivity sanction from the Council’s Honorary Court.

Interestingly, Rusdi was largely absent from chairing Commission III meetings during the sessions spanning late 2025 to early 2026. Sahroni indicated a strong possibility that Rusdi will align with PSI, mirroring the earlier decision of colleague Ahmad Ali to leave NasDem.

“I suspect so,” Sahroni stated regarding Rusdi’s potential move to PSI. The process for replacing Rusdi in the DPR now rests with NasDem General Chairman Surya Paloh, who will initiate an interim replacement mechanism (PAW) as per party rules.

“These are all decisions from the General Chair of NasDem,” Sahroni clarified.

Efforts to reach Rusdi and representatives from PSI for confirmation regarding his potential move to the party led by Kaesang Pangarep, son of President Jokowi, were ongoing at the time of reporting, but yielded no immediate response.
