On the bare concrete wall, a few numbers still indicate the parking spaces. It was called “a building for automobiles”, built in the 1920s, in the heart of 17e Parisian district. It allowed to park 600 cars on six levels. A car race had even been organized on the roof for its inauguration.
This car park was transformed into an office building in 1991. Today, its owner, the property company Gecina, has just launched a new restructuring. The facade has fallen, revealing the concrete structure. A large atrium 200 meters wide has been dug in the middle, to bring in natural light. There is no longer any question of being satisfied with a canteen: a huge “food court” opening onto the street will be installed on the ground floor. As it should be, a bar with a terrace will welcome the users of the building on the top floor. An agricultural greenhouse will even be accessible. So many heavy improvements considered essential today…
