Russia appoints new army chief to lead war with Ukraine

Russia, which has waged war on Ukraine, captured 4 cities of the country and annexed it. In this situation, as the attack of Ukrainian forces has intensified in the war, the Russian forces are withdrawing from some occupied areas.

Ukrainian forces have recaptured 2,400 square kilometers of territory in the southern Kherson region. It is considered a setback for the Russian military. In this case, the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered to appoint Sergei Surovikhin as the new army general of Russia.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashekov told reporters that Sergei would lead the Russian coalition forces involved in the war with Ukraine. He has previously served as commander of Russia’s Eastern Military Region and led Russian troops in the war with Syria.
