“We have touched upon the issue of Doing Business. <...> Of course, we appreciate the overall positive role of this rating, its positive impact on improving the business climate in the world and in our country in particular, ”said Mr. Overchuk following his visit to Washington (quoted by TASS).

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the session discussed the need for a tool that would help countries navigate while improving the business environment. He noted that Russia “has come a very long way in this rating” in recent years and reached 28th place.

The World Bank has suspended the publication of the Doing Business rankings in 2020, citing “inaccuracies” in the 2018 and 2020 rankings. The rating was discontinued in 2021. The WB investigation showed a deliberate and incorrect improvement in China’s DB rating in 2018, Saudi Arabia in 2020 and a deterioration in Azerbaijan’s ratings in 2020. As part of the proceedings, the IMF executive board expressed support to the head of the fund, ex-WB executive director Kristalina Georgieva. He did not remove her from office.
