The Russian Senate called this Thursday the presidential elections for March 17, 2024, as planned. “With this decision we kick off the electoral campaign,” said the president of the Senate, Valentina Matviyenko.

The Russian Constitution establishes that presidential elections are called by the Federation Council between 100 and 90 days before voting day, which is the second Sunday of the month in which the previous presidential elections were held, unless in that same week there are a festive day.

The second Sunday of next March is the 10th, but since the 8th is a holiday due to International Women’s Day, the elections will be held on the 17th.
