Celebrates that the West has not been able to “Ukrainize” the summit or the joint declaration

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, described this Sunday the G20 summit in New Delhi as an “unconditional success” not only for the host, India, or Russia, but for the bloc as a whole.
“The summit, of course, is an unconditional success, first of all for the Indian Presidency, but also for all of us,” Lavrov said at a press conference from New Delhi at the end of the meeting.
For the representative of Russian diplomacy, the G20 is immersed in a process of “internal reform” in which the countries of the global South, led by India itself, have managed to have “their interests” taken into account.
“The members of the G20 from the global South (…) have sought very clearly and persistently to have their interests taken into account in the agreements that have been discussed in the G20, and as a result they have been included in the declaration,” he said. , according to Interfax.
“THE WEST HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO ‘UKRANIZE’ THE AGENDA”
In this sense, Lavrov has alluded to the partners of the BRICS bloc – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – who have been “particularly active” during the summit.
“Thanks to these consolidated positions adopted by the countries of the global South to defend and protect their legitimate interests, the West has not been able to ‘Ukrainize’ the agenda to the detriment of the discussion of the tasks facing developing countries,” he noted.
Along these lines, Lavrov has accused the Western powers of being “incapable” of maintaining an “intelligent debate” regarding Ukraine. “All they can do is demand that Russia stop its aggression and restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” he stressed.
The G20 summit was held this weekend in New Delhi with the notable absences of the presidents of Russia and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, respectively.
Despite the disagreements of the member states, the bloc has finally managed to issue a joint statement condemning violent methods to resolve conflicts, alluding to the war in Ukraine.
Although Moscow has classified this document as “balanced”, the Ukrainian authorities have criticized its lukewarmness. Other leaders, such as US President Joe Biden, had pushed for the statement to be stronger against Russia.
On the other hand, the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has even stated that the G20 “is not the right meeting” to address issues such as the war in Ukraine.
