Russia announced that it had captured another village in the Pokrovsky direction, which is the hottest part of the front in Ukraine. BTA and Reuters, however, specify that this claim has not been independently verified, and Ukraine has not yet commented on the statement.
In its daily briefing today, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported a victory in the village of Zhuravka, ten kilometers west of Pokrovsk. The Ukrainian city, which is an important transport hub, appears to be the main target of the Russian offensive in the eastern Donetsk region at the moment.
Yesterday, the evacuation of people by train from Pokrovsk was stopped, because according to the authorities it is already very dangerous – the Russian army is ten kilometers from the city. However, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, told American television CNN that the Russian army had not advanced a single meter towards Pokrovsk in the past six days.
However, the Russian Ministry of Defense reports today that a total of seven villages in the Pokrov direction have been captured in the last week.
