Russia’s defense ministry reported multiple drone attacks on its territory on Sunday, allegedly carried out by Ukraine. The attacks targeted the western Belgorod region and the northern Kursk region, both of which share borders with Ukraine.

The latest drone attack occurred at approximately 10 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET), when a Ukrainian drone attempted to strike a target on Russian soil but was unsuccessful. The Russian defense ministry stated that the drone was detected and destroyed by Russian air defense systems over the Belgorod region. Thankfully, no casualties or damage were reported as a result of the attack.

Earlier in the day, three other drones were reportedly intercepted over the same region, according to local officials. This increase in drone attacks by Ukrainian forces has become more frequent in recent months, although Kyiv seldom claims direct responsibility for such attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously acknowledged that the conflict is gradually expanding onto Russian territory.

In a separate incident, Russia also reported incoming shelling from Ukraine on a residential building in the village of Volfino in the northern Kursk region. The shelling caused injuries to three individuals who were taken to the central district hospital for medical treatment. Roman Starovoyt, the regional governor, stated that a total of ten incoming strikes were recorded during the incident.

Volfino, the Russian village affected by the shelling, sits just across the border from Ukraine’s Sumy region, which has been subjected to frequent attacks from Russia.

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate, with both sides accusing each other of carrying out attacks on their respective territories. The international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and urges both parties to exercise restraint.
