MADRID, 20 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has denounced that the G7’s criticism of China’s economic and military policy formulated during the Hiroshima summit is nothing more than an exercise to contain the alliance between Beijing and Moscow, and end, through a policy of “suppression”, with the “competition” that Russia represents on the international stage.

“The mission has been said loud and clear: it is not enough to defeat Russia on the battlefield (of Ukraine) but this country must be eliminated as a geopolitical competitor,” Lavrov lamented during a meeting of the Council on Foreign Policy and of Defense in the Moscow region, collected by Interfax.

Lavrov has warned that any other country “claiming some kind of independent position on the world stage” will also be the victim of what he described as a “suppression” effort.

“Look at the decisions that are being discussed and adopted today in Hiroshima at the G7 summit and that have as their objective the double containment of Russia and the People’s Republic of China”, the minister has made known after the group’s statement published this Saturday and that He criticizes various aspects of current Chinese politics, from economic to commercial, including its expansion in the Indo-Pacific.

“What I want to make clear is that we are not promoting hostility towards anyone, but that we are forced to respond firmly and based on principles, as a reaction to the war that has been declared on us,” he concluded.
