Russian President Vladimir Putin received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo, expressing his concern over the ongoing war in Gaza.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said when hosting Abbas, “Russia is following with great pain and concern the humanitarian catastrophe taking place in Palestine,” stressing that “his country does not ignore what is happening in the Middle East despite the situation related to the special military operation.”
Putin pointed out that “Russia is following with great pain and concern the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine, and is doing its utmost to help the Palestinian people.”
Putin added: “We are concerned about civilian casualties, which according to the United Nations have reached 40,000 people, most of whom are women and children.”
In turn, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced, “The Palestinian leadership rejects attempts to deport residents from the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem.”
Abbas said during the talks with Putin: “We rely on humanitarian support for the Palestinians, and ending the policy of deportation. We will not accept the deportation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem, as happened before in the twentieth century. We believe that with your support we will achieve our goals.”
He added, “The United Nations, due to pressure from the United States, has failed in its mission to guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people and establish a Palestinian state.”
At the end of his speech, Abbas called for “stopping the fighting, providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, and not displacing Palestinians from their place of residence.” He stressed that “the Palestinian people will not allow or accept displacement from the West Bank and Gaza.” Addressing Putin, he said: “And you are with us in that,” from Jerusalem to abroad as happened in 1948, adding: “The tragedy of 1948 and 1967 will not be repeated, and with your support and assistance, we will achieve our goal.”
