Attempted Drone Attack Targeting Moscow Foiled by Russia

On Sunday, Russia announced that it had successfully thwarted an attempted drone attack by Ukraine, targeting the capital city of Moscow. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian Air Defense Forces shot down a total of 24 drones in the Moscow region.

The Russian Defense Ministry’s Telegram records also stated that no one was injured in the attack, however, three buildings in Moscow were damaged as a result of the drone strikes. In a statement released by Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobiev, Ukraine confirmed that the drone attacks had caused damage to several buildings.

Reports from Russian Telegram channels indicated that a 12-story apartment building in the remote city of Dula, located 180 km from Moscow, was hit by a drone, resulting in injuries to several individuals. Additionally, the Russian state news agency Tass reported that two airports in Moscow had to briefly close operations due to the threat of drone attacks. However, operations were later resumed as the threat was neutralized.

As of now, Ukraine has not officially commented on the attack. However, the incident comes just after Ukraine intercepted and destroyed 74 out of 75 Iranian-made Shaheed drones that were launched by the AV Russia on Saturday. Ukraine has stated that the main target of this attack was the city of Kiev.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have been escalating as Russia continues to oppose Ukraine’s interest in joining NATO. Russia views Ukraine’s potential accession to NATO as a threat to its national security. This tension has led to the ongoing war that began when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 of last year.

The conflict between the two countries has been ongoing for over a year and a half, and the attempted drone attacks are the latest in a series of escalating confrontations between the two nations.
