Russian armed forces have foiled a Ukrainian offensive deep into the country’s border zone, the Russian Defense Ministry announced today, as quoted by Reuters.

The statement also said that Russia had struck Ukrainian forces in southern Russia’s Kursk region overnight and the operation was ongoing.

So far, there is no comment on the matter from the Ukrainian authorities, notes the Associated Press.

The governor of Russia’s border Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, urged local residents to donate blood amid reports of an incursion by Ukrainian forces.

The available stocks of blood banks are replenished because of the fighting, Smirnov announced.

“During the last 24 hours, our region has heroically resisted the attacks” of the Ukrainian forces, he wrote in “Telegram” and added that all emergency services are on high alert, BTA reported.

Yesterday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that around 300 Ukrainian servicemen, supported by 11 tanks and more than 20 armored fighting vehicles, had entered Russian territory. The agency said Ukrainian forces had suffered heavy casualties, without specifying specific numbers.

There is no evidence from independent sources that Ukrainian troops were involved in the attack, notes the Associated Press.
