Not worried about the sanctions? The Russian Federation has submitted a request to host the Euro 2028 or 2032 tournament, local media reported today (Wednesday). As you may recall, the Russian team is still excluded from all activities in world football by UEFA and FIFA and therefore was also excluded from the playoffs for promotion to the World Cup in Qatar.
All this probably does not worry Russia too much, which is interested in hosting one of the next Euro tournaments as mentioned, in 2028 or 2032. As you may recall, hosting the Champions League final, which was supposed to be this year in Zenit St. Petersburg, was taken from Russia in favor of Paris.
One of the members of the board of the Russian association, Sergei Anokhin, actually confirmed the attempt to compete for hosting one of the following tournaments. As for the Euro in 2028, it is expected to eventually reach the joint hosting of the UK and Ireland.
Meanwhile, Russia on a variety of its branches is still excluded from the world of sports following the sanctions imposed due to Russia’s war on Ukraine.
