Russia has toughened punishment for nets and curtains in cars

by time news

Russian drivers began to complain about tougher penalties for the use of car curtains and wire mesh on windows. If earlier the traffic police officers wrote out a fine of 500 rubles for the use of such things. or were limited to a warning, but now they began to issue orders to eliminate the violation within the specified period, Autonews reports.

The requirements of the inspectors are due to the technical regulations of the Customs Union, which has been in effect in Russia since 2015. According to it, the driver must ensure the light transmission of the front side windows by at least 70%. Thus, curtains and nets are equated with tinting, so they can be opened only when the car is stationary.

“For such a violation, a fine of 500 rubles is provided. The inspector has the right to remove the incorrectly installed curtains at the place where the driver stopped, and if they cannot be removed, the employee will issue a requirement, according to which the driver will have 10 days to remove them, ”the traffic police press service said.

If the violations are not corrected within 10 days, they will be equated to changes in the design of the car. A fine for this can be obtained under Part 1 of Art. 12.5 of the Administrative Code “Driving a vehicle in the presence of malfunctions or conditions under which the operation of the vehicle is prohibited.”

In this case, the driver who hung the curtains must receive a special certificate for safety and a mark in the documents from the testing laboratory. The absence of these securities entails a fine of RUB 500–800. With a second check and detection of the same violation, the amount rises to 5,000 rubles. It also threatens with deprivation of rights for up to three months, removal of the car from registration, twisting of numbers without the possibility of their return and withdrawal of the vehicle registration certificate (STS), the traffic police explained. As a result, you will have to register the car again, having received a new number.
