We are absolutely confident in the success of COP29, Russian Minister of Economy Maxim Reshetnikov said following negotiations in Baku with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Day.Az reports.

“Azerbaijan has taken on a serious burden of hosting COP29, but we are absolutely confident in the success of this event,” Reshetnikov noted.

According to him, the topic of the climate agenda is important for the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan and was discussed today in Baku. “Climate and economic issues are strongly intertwined. These are issues of access to energy resources, issues of trade barriers, issues of implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement,” the minister noted.

According to Reshetnikov, such a connection requires constant expert negotiations to develop common positions. “There is an understanding of the difficult task Azerbaijan faces at COP29 to find a compromise between the very different interests of developed markets, developing countries, hydrocarbon exporters and suppliers of new energy technologies,” the minister added.

He noted that Azerbaijan is demonstrating a deep and professional approach in preparing for COP29.
