The name of Kirill (Kyrylo in Ukrainian) Budanov, 37, now appears in the Russian Interior Ministry’s database of people wanted for violations of the Criminal Code.

The authorities do not specify what they accuse him of.

Mr. Boudanov, who has headed the military intelligence department within the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense since 2020, is accused by the Russian authorities of having organized the attack in October 2022 which partially destroyed the bridge connecting the Crimea, Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow to Russia.

At the end of November, Ukraine said it suspected Russia of the heavy metal poisoning of Mr. Boudanov’s wife, Marianna Boudanova, who advises Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

The Kremlin rejected these accusations, its spokesperson Dmitry Peskov having assured the press that “Ukraine always blames Russia for everything”.
