Ukraine-Russia, Medvedev: “As tennis players we promote peace around the world”
Daniil Medvedev he doesn’t really want to celebrate hers first place in the ATP ranking (he is the 27th tennis player to become number 1 in the world in history)ousting Novak Djokovic. The Russian tennis player, from Acapulco (where is the Atp 500 tournament) talks about the invasion of Ukraine and sends a message of peace: “As tennis players we promote peace all over the world. I have been in many different countries since I was a junior and it is not easy for me to hear all this news”. Medvedev recalled how in last week’s tournament in Marseille the victory in the doubles went to a Russian tennis player, Andrey Rublevpaired with a Ukrainian, Denys Molchanov. “It was great: people need to be together.”
Medvedev number 1 in world tennis: Djokovic ousted
Daniil Medvedev is the new number 1 in world tennisafter the surprising defeat of Novak Djokovic in Dubai (against the Czech Jiri Vesely). From Monday the Russian tennis player (in the semifinal at the ATP 500 Mexican tournament in Acapulco) will be in first place in the ATP ranking. In the quarter-finals, Medvedev, first seed on the scoreboard, overtook the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka for 6-2 6-3. The Russian, currently 2 of the world, will face in the semifinals Rafael Nadal (in the rematch of the Australian Open final which Rafa won with a spectacular comeback). The Spaniard, 4 of the seeding and 5 of the world, beat the American Tommy Paul with a score of 6-0 7-6 (5). On the other side of the board, the Greek Stefanos Tstitsipaswinner 6-3 6-4 over the American Gironwill challenge the British Cameron Norriewho defeated the German Gojowczyk per 6-1 6-0.
