Russia offered Tunisia assistance in preparing the country’s first cosmonaut for a space flight. This opportunity was discussed at a meeting in Moscow by representatives of Roscosmos and the Tunisian company Telnet Holding.

“Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for Russian-Tunisian cooperation in the field of manned space flights, in particular, the intentions of the Tunisian side to train and launch a woman-cosmonaut into space,” Roscosmos said in a statement.

In particular, the meeting was attended by the head of the Russian state corporation Dmitry Rogozin and the general director of the Tunisian company Telnet Holding Mohammed Friha, as well as the Tunisian ambassador to Russia Tarak bin Salem.

At the end of July, the scientific and technical council of Roskosmos recommended, due to the deteriorating technical condition of the International Space Station (ISS), which has been operating in orbit for 22 years, to start developing a new orbital station. It is assumed that the Nauka module docked to the ISS in July, together with the Scientific Power Module (SEM), will become the basis for the first Russian orbital station in 20 years. The Russian orbital station Mir was destroyed in 2000.
