Russia orders nuclear weapons exercises near Ukraine

Russia has announced the realization of nuclear exercises “in the near future” near Ukraine. The measure comes in response to statements by Western leaders about a possible deployment of troops in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

These exercises aim to train the preparation and use of nuclear weapons non-strategic, which could be deployed on the battlefield and launched through missiles.

The announcement of the nuclear tests comes amid growing tensions between Russia and the West, especially following French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent statements about the possible sending of troops to Ukraine.

The Kremlin has justified these nuclear exercises as a response to perceived threats from Western leaders about sending troops to Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov has denounced the “very dangerous” rhetoric of leaders such as Macron, as well as senior British and American officials.

Attacks on British military targets

Russia has also threatened to attack British targets in Ukraine and further if kyiv uses weapons supplied by the United Kingdom against their territory. These warnings come after statements by the British Chancellor, David Cameron, who, according to Moscowalluded to Ukraine’s right to hit Russian territory with British weapons.

Meanwhile, on the ground, the Russian army has claimed the capture of two towns in the east and northeast of Ukraine. These advances come amid an ongoing offensive since the failure of the Ukrainian counterattack in 2023.
