NATO has warned that Russia will have to pay a high price if it violates international law on war.

Brussels:

A summit of EU leaders and prime ministers with a majority of NATO members is set to take place next week to discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Russia was preparing to launch a chemical attack on Ukraine.

He said NATO member states were concerned. He noted that Russia has made “false allegations” about the existence of biological weapons laboratories in Ukraine.

He said Russia could launch a chemical attack because of this, and that NATO was very aware of this. He also warned that Russia would have to pay a higher price if it violated such international law.

However, he declined to comment on whether NATO would retaliate against Russia in the event of a chemical attack on Ukraine.

He noted that in order to further strengthen the forces of NATO countries on the border with Ukraine, a significant number of NATO forces could be deployed in the East in readiness and with more weapons.
