HOUSTON: Global anger erupted over Sunday against Moscow over allegations that Russian troops killed Ukrainian civilians. Such a picture became clear when the Russian army withdrew from the area near Kiev. This doubled Western calls for war crimes investigations.
As Russian troops retreat from areas around the Ukrainian capital, civilians have risen from basement shelters to protest for bread distributed by Ukrainian soldiers reclaiming the area. Debris from broken tanks litter the roads. The bodies lay uncollected in the streets full of debris. The dead included civilians, some of whom were allegedly killed by Russian forces, Ukrainian officials said. Russia’s Defense Ministry has dismissed Bucha’s photos as “fake.”
At the same time, Britain’s Secretary of State Listrus said it was gathering evidence to investigate war crimes and impeach those responsible. The move is aimed at examining Ukraine’s claims of civilian executions.
Russian troops say Bucha left on Wednesday. Russia has claimed that the Ukrainian army shelled the area following the Russian withdrawal, causing civilian casualties. The Russian government struggled to explain why it had to leave the area around Kiev after weeks of fighting.
