Russia showed off its new weaponry

New photos of the UMPB D-30SN precision-guided cruise bomb show two examples of it mounted under the wing of a Russian Su-34 attack aircraft.

The photos show the compact structure of the D-30SN under the Su-34 aircraft. The UMPB D-30SN, with its criss-cross tail fins and folding main wing that sits flush with the sleek bomb body, is a significant evolution of Russian precision-guided munitions. It should be noted that the bomb is attached to the aircraft upside down – and after launch it turns over to be correctly aimed at the target.

The UMPB D-30SN is designed to drift towards the target and has its own propulsion system, giving it a range far beyond that of traditional gravity bombs. The bomb is considered an advanced yet cost-effective alternative to the older FAB-250 bombs – and a cheaper alternative to the American GBU-39 (SDB) small diameter bombs.

Although the specific range capabilities of the UMPB D-30SN have not been disclosed, some estimates suggest that it may exceed the range of 50-70 kilometers normally expected from such munitions, making it a difficult challenge for Ukrainian air defense systems, Defense Blog writes.
