Kyiv: Ukraine says Russian forces have destroyed a laboratory operating at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The Ukrainian government agency in charge of Chernobyl said the lab contained highly active radionuclides (chemicals containing volatile atoms that emit radiation). The lab was built in 2015 at a cost of 60 60 million with the help of the European Commission. Ukraine’s nuclear control agency said on Monday that monitoring of the plant’s radiation levels was not working. At the beginning of the war, the Russian army took control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Meanwhile, the Russian offensive against Ukraine entered its fourth week in a row. The worst-hit area was the port city of Mariupol. Russia has launched an offensive here by land, air and water. Russia’s control of Mariupol, which sided with Crimea, which they seized in 2014, is crucial.

The U.S. says it has received reports that Russian warships deployed in the Azazov Sea are launching a missile attack on Mariupol. The Department of Defense has also confirmed the circles.

The Ukrainian government says a Russian team has captured 15 members of a humanitarian team trying to deliver food and other supplies to Mariupol. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky said more than a million people were trapped in the city.
