Russia-Ukraine War: Additional generals in the Russian army have been removed from office

by time news

The Russia-Ukraine war, which has been going on for four months since the Russian invasion of the country, continues to be fought in heavy fighting in the city of Sverdontsek, where Russian armored units are gaining ground at the southern end of the built-up area.

According to the report, since the beginning of June, the Russian High Command has apparently removed some generals from key operational command positions in the war in Ukraine. These include the commander of the Air Force, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov, and the commander of the Southern Force Group, General Alexander Dvornikov, who also served for some time as a general operational commander.

The report indicates that command of the southern forces may pass to Colonel-General Sergei Sorovikin, as they continue to play a key role in Russia’s attack on the Donbas. The report notes that for more than thirty years, Sorovikin’s career has been accompanied by accusations of corruption and cruelty.

At the same time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he feared that Ukraine might face pressure to sign a peace agreement with Russia that did not suit its interests, due to the economic consequences of the war in Europe.

“Too many countries say this is an unnecessary European war … so the pressure will increase to encourage – perhaps, – the Ukrainians to sign a bad peace agreement,” Johnson said. “If Russian President Vladimir Putin succeeds in achieving his goals in Ukraine, the consequences will be dangerous for international security and there will be a long-term economic disaster,” he added.
