Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar confirmed on Friday that Ukrainian troops “have advanced 2 kilometers” in the area of the front of the city of Bajmut (It is)after Ukrainian and Russian military sources published various information in this regard in recent days.
In a message posted on his Telegram channel, Malyar stated that “the enemy has failed to fulfill its plans” and “has suffered mass casualties”. “Our fighters have advanced two kilometers in the Bakhmut area,” added the deputy minister. Malyar also wrote that the Ukrainian forces “have not lost a single position.”
In her message, the deputy minister accused Russia of “praising itself and make up stories about our military command”. “At the same time, the enemy gives false information about the lack of weapons, with which he probably wants to justify the real situation” in Bakhmut, Malyar added, referring to comments by the head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, on lack of ammunition that would explain the evolution of the situation in Bakhmut.
Prigozhin assured this week that units of the Russian regular army deployed in Bakhmut have abandoned their positions before the Ukrainian army counterattacks. Ukrainian brigades with a presence in the city later confirmed Prigozhin’s claims. The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has also reported this week “successful counterattacks” by his troops in Bakhmut.
Russia began its offensive to take Bakhmut last August. Although it has gained control of almost the entire city, Ukrainian troops maintain control over some neighborhoods and, if the latest information is confirmed, they are recovering ground in the city.
