The Defense Commission of the Russian Duma proposes that citizens with a criminal record can enlist in the Army
The Defense Commission of the Russian State Duma (Lower House) has presented a bill on Wednesday that, among other issues, proposes that citizens with criminal records can enlist in the Army during periods of mobilization.
The initiative, proposed by the head of the Defense Committee, Andrei Karapolov, and his first deputy, Andrei Krasov, aims at the enlistment of these citizens also during periods of war or in which martial law is in force, reports the Russian agency TASS.
However, the document clarifies that those with criminal records related to crimes “against sexual integrity, convicted of terrorism, high treason, espionage and other serious crimes” are excluded from possible enlistment.
