Russia-Ukraine War: Progress in Negotiations Will Allow Putin-Zlansky to Meet?

by time news

Russia-Ukraine War: The head of the Ukrainian side of the negotiating delegation, the head of the Ukrainian negotiating team for talks with Russia, David Arhamia, announced tonight (Saturday) that the drafts of the peace agreement reached in talks last week are ready for direct discussion between Presidents Vladimir Zlansky and Vladimir Putin and that the two may meet in Turkey.

According to Archemia, Russia has accepted Ukraine’s overall position, with the exception of the Crimea, which was annexed to Russia in 2014. At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would be happy to continue negotiations with Ukraine in Belarus, but the latter opposes it.

“Russia has given an official answer to all our positions, and they have accepted everything except the issue of Crimea,” Arhamia said. “The Russians have also reaffirmed our position that the draft documents compiled are sufficient to hold direct consultations between the leaders. Our aim is to prepare the last stage for a discussion of the issues we have touched on and to prepare for a future meeting of the presidents.”

According to Arhamia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has already spoken with the two presidents and offered to host the meeting. “A date or place has not yet been set, but there is a high probability that the meeting will take place in Istanbul or Ankara,” said Arhamia, head of the ruling party “Servant of the People.”

According to Arhamia, the Russians have accepted the Ukrainian position that the transition to the status of a neutral state, which requires a change of constitution, will be raised for approval in a referendum. When asked what would happen if most of the voters objected, Arhamia replied that “the peace agreement will have no legal validity.” “Maybe we’ll go back to a state of war or go back to new negotiations and resolve it in some other way,” he explained.

Earlier today, an adviser to the President of Ukraine said today that Ukrainian forces had re-occupied 30 cities and villages in the Kyiv region, after Russian forces had left the area. According to him, the forces hold the front line against the Russian forces in the east.

In an interview with National Television, the adviser warned that heavy fighting is expected below: “Let us not have illusions – there will still be tough battles for southern and eastern Ukraine and for Mariupol.”

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Melier also announced that Ukrainian forces had managed to regain full control of the Kyiv district. “Kyiv district has been completely liberated from the invaders,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
