“Marsalek is a very ambitious man, with an ego, an adventurer, a good communicator. He was attracted by the mystery of the spy world.”

This was commented by the former chairman of DANS Tsvetlin Yovchev in the program “120 minutes” on BTV on the occasion of Austrian-born Jan Marsalek, who is believed to have led the Bulgarians accused in Great Britain of espionage for Russia

“Marsalek has created a corporate intelligence structure – this is not unusual. It is normal for him to attract former employees of the Austrian intelligence services,” Yovchev explained.

According to him, this is not the first such case, referring to Robert Maxwell, who “also had connections with Bulgaria” and was suspected of working with as many as three intelligence agencies.

“The services quite often also use non-diplomatic cover – businessmen, journalists, etc.,” added the former chairman of DANS.

On the occasion of several people expelled from our country so far, who were suspected of espionage in favor of Russia, he commented: “Russian agents have never left Europe and Bulgaria – we should not feed the illusion that these are the only ones (expelled – ed. note), who are scouting on our territory.”

About the murder of Martin Bojanov – Notary Yovchev said: “I heard about him after the attempt. What happened also caused me a painful feeling, because this thing happened in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Let’s not lie to ourselves that this scheme, as well as Pepi’s scheme The Euros are the only ones to influence the judicial system. Such influence schemes exist in other systems as well. Corruption has many dimensions.”
