Russia Intensifies Airstrikes in Ukraine After Naval Ship Attack

Kiev: Russia has intensified its airstrikes in Ukraine following an attack on a naval ship on the Black Sea coast of Crimea. The increased violence has resulted in a spate of casualties and damage to infrastructure.

On Tuesday night, a drone strike in the southern city of Kherson claimed the lives of five people. The railway station in the city was shelled, resulting in the death of a policeman and injuring four others, including two policemen. Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko reported that approximately 140 people were present at the station at the time of the attack.

In the aftermath of the strike, 70 percent of households in Kherson were left without electricity. Notably, attacks targeting energy facilities have been a part of Russia’s war strategy in Ukraine, with similar tactics being employed last winter. Additionally, two people were killed in a drone strike in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa, with three others sustaining injuries.

The Ukrainian air force has reported shooting down 32 out of the 46 drones sent by Russia on Tuesday night, demonstrating a defensive response to the increased airstrikes.

The recent escalation of violence has further heightened tensions between the two countries, with the international community closely monitoring the situation in the region. As the conflict continues to unfold, the impact on civilian populations and critical infrastructure remains a pressing concern.
