Russia has launched a series of attacks against several Ukrainian cities, including Kiev. According to the spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, after the first days of the war, this was the most intense missile attack.
The latest report on Friday’s attacks points to 18 civilians killed and 132 injured. In total, Russia launched 158 aerial targets – air defense forces shot down 27 drones and 87 cruise missiles.
Rescue operations are still ongoing in several cities such as Kiev, Dnipro, Odesa, Kharkiv and Lviv. According to Ukrainian authorities, many people were buried under the rubble during the attack that lasted several hours. The death toll could rise as rescue operations continue. Among the damaged buildings are apartment blocks, schools and a maternity hospital.
The United Nations humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine issued a statement condemning the “Russia’s heinous series of attacks on populated areas in recent hours, which has left a trail of destruction, death and suffering”.
Ukraine has already asked its Western allies for more air defenses to protect itself from attacks like this Friday, which also put neighboring Poland on alert.
The Polish defense forces stated that an unknown object entered the country’s airspace this morning, coming from Ukraine, and then disappeared from radars, and that everything indicated that it was a Russian missile. Troops have been mobilized and there are no reports of any explosions or casualties.
