The Chinese Ministry of Defense announced that “joint naval and air exercises with Russia will begin this month.”
The ministry said: “The North United 2024 exercises will be held in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk to the north.”
The Chinese news agency, Xinhua, reported that “the Russian military will send naval and air forces to participate in maneuvers that China is conducting in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk in September.”
Xinhua added, “The maneuvers aim to enhance the level of strategic coordination between the Chinese and Russian armies and enhance their ability to respond jointly to security threats.”
The agency indicated that “the two navies will sail together in the Pacific Ocean, which is the fifth time they have done so, and participate together in the Russian “Great Ocean 24″ maneuvers.”
It is noteworthy that the first joint naval exercise between the Russian and Chinese navies was conducted in 2005 in the Yellow Sea, and since 2012, joint maneuvers have been held regularly in different regions. The Chinese Ministry of Defense previously announced that the joint Chinese-Russian naval patrols in the Pacific Ocean are not directed against a third party.
