Russian complex “Okno-M” recorded an increase in activity in space

According to the results of four months of 2021, the Russian optical-electronic complex (OEC) for detecting space objects “Okno-M” recorded the movement of about 30 thousand space objects, despite the fact that for the whole last year the complex tracked the movement of 25 thousand such objects, the press reports -Service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

“For four months in 2021 [система] provided control over the movement of about 30 thousand space objects. In 2020, on the basis of information received by the Russian space control system from the means of OEK Okno-M, more than 25 thousand space objects were monitored, ”the message says.

The department explained that the complex is located in Tajikistan in the Sanglok mountains. It allows monitoring space objects in orbits in the altitude range from 120 km to 50,000 km. The detection range of the complex was increased thanks to the modernization. The complex was put on experimental combat duty in 1999, now its work is fully automated.

During the operation of the “Okno” complex, more than 12.5 million measurements of space objects were carried out, more than 7.5 thousand new high-orbit space objects were discovered, and about 800 spacecraft were controlled into working orbits.
