Russian Defense Ministry Claims Ongoing Defense Against Ukrainian Incursion in Kursk Region

by time news

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces continue to “repel an attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to invade the territory of the Russian Federation,” a week after the start of a Ukrainian incursion in the Kursk region.

The ministry said on Wednesday (14) that the northern task force, which has aerial and drone support, prevented the efforts of Kiev’s troops from making further “deep advances into Russian territory.” The agency also mentioned small settlements, including Skrylevka and Levshinka, located about 20 kilometers from the border.

Earlier on Wednesday (14), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that troops advanced by one to two kilometers in the Kursk region.

The Russian Ministry published a video of alleged Ukrainian soldiers near the city of Martynovka, but CNN was unable to verify the location of the video or the identity of the individuals present. The ministry claims, through a video that allegedly shows the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers, that Ukraine lost 270 military personnel and 16 armored vehicles.

The agency stated that “in the area of Martynovka, two enemy groups were discovered and destroyed.” Martynovka is located a few kilometers northeast of the city of Sudzha, where Ukrainian forces have been present since last Wednesday (7). Videos located by CNN show a continuous Ukrainian military presence in settlements near Sudzha.

The Russian Ministry also said that its aircraft carried out attacks against Ukrainian reserves on the other side of the border, in the Sumy region. It is unclear to what extent Russia is redistributing units from other areas along the front lines to reinforce the defense of Kursk, but it seems to be redirecting reserves.

Ukraine declared that anti-aircraft missiles shot down a Russian fighter plane, Su-34, in the Kursk region on Tuesday night.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, stated that he had not seen a withdrawal of Russian troops in the direction of the city.
