The Russian delegation, which arrived in Egypt to assess the situation with coronavirus in the country’s resorts, began its inspection from the Sharm el-Sheikh airport, said Maya Lomidze, executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR). The delegation includes representatives of Rospotrebnadzor, Rostourism and other organizations.

According to Ms. Lomidze, the delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday morning and went to South Sinai. “The first object, which was inspected by domestic experts, accompanied by representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, was the Sharm El Sheikh International Airport. In particular, the Russians examined the arrivals and departures halls for the implementation of antiquated protocols, ”she said (quoted from the ATOR website).

The ATOR representative added that in Sharm el-Sheikh, the delegation will inspect several hotel complexes of different classes, medical institutions and laboratories, as well as coronavirus vaccination centers. Then the Russians will visit Hurghada, where they will also inspect the airport and other tourist sites. The visit to Egypt is expected to end on Friday.

On July 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled a 2015 decree banning charter flights to Egyptian resorts. At the same time, flights from Russia to the resorts of Egypt – Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh – will open only from August 9. Five planes from Moscow will be sent to each of the cities a week. A further decision to increase the number of flights on these routes will be made following the visit of the Russian delegation to Egypt.
