Seven people, including three children, were killed this Saturday by a Russian drone attack that set fire to a gas station in the city of Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, said the governor of the homonymous region Oleg Sinegubov.

“Unfortunately, the toll of the occupier’s attacks on Kharkiv rose to seven” dead, Sinegubov reported on the Telegram social network. “Among them are three children: a seven-year-old, a four-year-old and a baby of about six months,” he added.

The Iranian-made Shahed drones “hit a gas station and caused a spill of flaming fuel, which caused fourteen private houses to burn,” said the city’s mayor, Igor Terekhov, who also explained that the flames forced to evacuate about fifty people in the area.

Kharkiv and the town of Veliki Burluk, further east, have been frequent targets of attacks since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in late February 2022.

The regional governor stated that a couple and their three children “died” in their home, “an entire family of five people,” due to the fire.

“The man’s body was found in the hallway of the house, while the mother and children tried to escape in the bathroom,” he said, adding that a retired couple died in another house.

For his part, the regional prosecutor, Oleksander Filachkov, indicated that the attack with three drones destroyed “sensitive infrastructure,” in reference to the gas station. “There was a huge amount of fuel” he spilled, “which explains why the fire was so terrible,” he noted.

“Our anger is absolute. “These people will pay for everything,” the head of the presidential administration Andrii Yermak said in a message on Telegram.

Elsewhere in Ukraine, two people were killed and two others wounded in a Russian attack in the town of Veletinske in the southern region of Kherson, the regional administration said.

The large Black Sea port of Odessa was also the target of drone attacks, which left four people injured, according to Governor Oleg Kiper.

And in Izmail, on the banks of the Danube, the attacks destroyed industrial facilities, he added.

In total, 23 of the 31 explosive drones launched by Russia in the Kharkiv and Odessa regions were shot down in mid-flight, the air force said.
