Russian fighters plead with Putin to change ‘bloodshed’ strategy

Russian marines in the Donetsk People’s Republic, which was illegally annexed to Russia, wrote a letter to President Putin presenting the dire situation on the ground and begging Putin to recalculate a course

Russian soldiers in Ukraine wrote a letter to President Putin in which they beg him to reconsider his invasion strategy, because it is “blood that has been spilled and spilled”. The latest estimates from the Ukrainian military put the number of Russian soldiers killed since Putin launched his “special military operation” in February at just over 75,000.

Russian pro-war journalist Alexander Seldkov claimed on his Telegram channel that Russian marines in the illegally annexed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) had launched a campaign against mounting losses on the Russian side.

They reportedly wrote to Oleg Kozhmyaku, the governor of the Primorsky region in Russia’s far east, asking him to act on their behalf and get Putin to change course. Seldkov declined to release the intricate details of the letter but did shed some light on the bleak picture painted by the Marines. It read: “I will not publish the letter here. Its essence has been passed on to the Russian Ministry of Defense,” he said.

He agreed to say that: “Great losses, the inability to convey to senior management information about the losses in people and vehicles. I have the numbers, but it is up to the Attorney General’s office” (to release them). “The marines are asking Oleg Kozmiako to contact the Ministry of Defense to send a committee to urgently analyze the situation. “However, I am publishing this post because they have been talking to higher officials about the situation in Republivka for several days, and the blood has been spilled and spilled.”
