The Russians on Monday, February 7, won the team figure skating tournament at the Beijing Winter Olympics, gaining a total of 74 points. The second place went to the US team (65 points), the bronze medal was won by athletes from Japan (63 points).

In the men’s singles skating, the Russian team was represented by Mark Kondratyuk, in the women’s singles by Kamila Valieva, in the pairs competition by Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, and in dance duets by Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov.

The Russian skaters secured the final first place ahead of schedule before the final discipline – a free program in women’s single skating. But for the legal registration of the team victory, according to the regulations, it was required that Kamila Valieva, who represented Russia in the free skate, simply performed her number to the end. For her rental, the athlete eventually earned 178.92 points, and her result was the best among all participants in the free program.

This gold figure skating team Olympic tournament was the second in history for Russia. For the first time the Russian team won the Games in Sochi in 2014. In Pyeongchang, four years later, the Russians became second, losing to the Canadians.

Now Russian athletes have two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
