Russian Forces Escalate Attacks on Ukraine’s Avdiivka

Ukraine has reported an increase in attacks from Russian forces on the town of Avdiivka in the eastern Donetsk region. The town, which was once home to around 30,000 people, has been a focal point of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia since 2014.

The recent escalation in attacks comes as Russia has renewed its bid to capture the war-torn town, with analysts suggesting that Moscow’s forces have made incremental gains.

According to Ukrainian commander Oleksandr Tarnavsky, Russian forces have significantly increased their activity, using armored vehicles and carrying out nearly 20 airstrikes, launching four missiles, and throwing 56 assault waves at Ukrainian forces. In addition, more than 1,000 artillery rounds have been fired at the town.

Tarnavsky stated that Ukrainian forces are “firmly holding the line along the Avdiivka front,” although this claim could not be independently verified.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for nearly two years, with neither side making significant breakthroughs on the battlefield in recent weeks. Avdiivka’s status as a flashpoint in the conflict has made it a high-stakes battleground for both sides.

The international community continues to monitor the situation closely as the conflict in eastern Ukraine shows no signs of abating.
