During the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, to Egypt, he promised the supply of Russian grain, which would provide security to Egypt. Egypt is one of the world’s leading wheat importers, and last year it bought about 80% of its imports from Russia and Ukraine. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24 disrupted shipments and accelerated the rise in global commodity prices, causing a financial shock in Egypt.
