Russian Foreign Minister visits; US and Australia criticize India

by time news

US and Australia oppose Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s visit to India. The US has also warned India not to buy too much fuel from Russia. The United States has said no such move could have serious repercussions. Australian Trade Minister Dan Tehan said it was important for democracies to work together to maintain an approach based on post-World War II laws. There are reports that the US is moving to impose sanctions on oil purchases from Russia.

Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin has suggested that EU member states open ruble accounts to buy fuel from Russia. Putin said that ruble accounts should be opened in Russian banks and that payments for fuel should be made through these accounts from April. He also announced the signing of an order outlining a clear and transparent process in this regard.

No one sells anything to Russia for free. He added that non-payment meant that existing contracts would be terminated. Under the new order, all payments will be handled by Gasprom Bank, a subsidiary of the state energy agency Gazprom.
