Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the attempt to “squeeze” the UN mission from Kosovo – RBK

Moscow views the announcement persona non grata of the representative of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) as a provocation and an attempt to “squeeze” the UN mission out of the partially recognized republic. This is stated in the widespread comment of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

On December 31, Kosovo recognized a Russian from the UN Interim Administration Mission persona non grata because of “harmful activities” that are believed to suffer the republic’s national security.

“We consider the next trick of Pristina as a continuation of the provocative line on exacerbation of interethnic relations in the region, discrediting the World Organization and, not least of all, the constructive role of Russia in the Balkans. <...> We strongly condemn any attempts to restrict the activities or “squeeze” the UN mission out of Kosovo, “Zakharova said.

The representative of the Foreign Ministry stressed that the “arbitrariness” of Pristina will receive a proper response from the UN leadership. “We call on UNMIK and the International Force for Kosovo, within the framework of their powers under the said UN Security Council resolution, to ensure the security of the Russian and all other members of the UN mission,” she concluded.
