Russian Grichishkin sentenced to five years in prison in the United States for cybercrimes

The US District Court in the Southern District of Michigan sentenced Russian citizen Alexander Grichishkin to five years in prison (60 months), the US Department of Justice said. He was found guilty of providing hosting services for malware that attacked companies in the United States from 2009 to 2015. According to court records, Grichishkin was the founder and leader of a group that provides cybercriminals with bulletproof hosting. The Russian monitored the sites through which the network infrastructure was blocked, and transferred the malware to another infrastructure.

Alexander Grichishkin was one of four people who pleaded guilty to cybercrimes. The accused asked to be deported to his homeland or to Thailand. In 2021, a US court sentenced two of his accomplices, Estonian Pavel Stassi and Lithuanian Alexander Skorodimov, to two and four years in prison, respectively. The verdict of another Russian citizen, Andrei Skvortsov, who is being held in the case, will be handed down later, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
