Russian hackers broke into the phone of former British Prime Minister Liz Truss

Reports in the British media published today (Saturday) claim that Russian spies hacked into the personal phone of former Prime Minister Liz Truss and may have succeeded in revealing secret and sensitive information.

The government was called to launch an urgent investigation after the alarming reports.

The Mail on Sunday reported that the hack came to light as Strauss, then foreign secretary, contested the Conservative leadership in the summer, but the details were suppressed by then-prime minister Boris Johnson and cabinet secretary Simon Keyes.

Spies suspected of working for Russian President Vladimir Putin were given access to sensitive information, including discussions about the Ukraine war with foreign parties, the newspaper said, citing anonymous sources.

It is also claimed that private conversations between Truss and former finance minister Kwasi Kuarteng, criticizing Johnson, fell into the hands of the hackers, leaving them vulnerable to extortion.

Opposition parties are demanding an investigation into the alleged attack, which will raise questions about Britain’s cyber security, as well as the response from Johnson and Keyes.
