The Russian Helicopters holding will take part in the development of a Chinese heavy helicopter, said the company’s general director Andrei Boginsky during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“In 2016, during your visit to Beijing, an intergovernmental agreement was signed. Intensive negotiations have been going on since 2008, and on June 25 of this year we signed a contract, ”said Boginsky, quoted by the Kremlin press service.

According to him, the Russian holding will develop only part of the helicopter’s units: transmission, tail rotor and anti-icing system.

“The project is big enough, for about 13 years. Work will be carried out, therefore, of course, for us, and especially for young people, this is a serious project on which we can work for a long time and, among other things, acquire additional skills and competencies, “said the head of Russian Helicopters.

Russia and China are already jointly developing the CR929 wide-body long-range aircraft. The companies SOMAS and UAC, as part of a joint venture, began work on the liner in 2016. The project cost is estimated at $ 20 billion: $ 13 billion will go directly to the development of the liner, $ 7 billion – to create an after-sales service system and financial instruments to stimulate sales. The basic version CR929-600 in a three-class layout will be able to carry 280 passengers over a distance of 12,000 km. The family of aircraft will also consist of a modification with an extended fuselage (CR929-700) and a shortened fuselage (CR929-500).
