Russian troops on Tuesday, March 1, continued to strike at settlements in many regions of Ukraine. The hottest spots now are Kherson, a number of districts northwest of Kyiv and Kharkiv, Aleksey Arestovich, an adviser to the head of the presidential office of Ukraine, said. His comment is given in the Telegram channel of the Verkhovna Rada.

“Now the hottest point is Kherson. Street battles are going on there, units of the Armed Forces, territorial defense – with Russian invaders,” Arestovich said. The day before, Russian troops surrounded Kherson. “The Russian army has set up checkpoints at the entrances to Kherson,” the mayor of the city, Igor Kolykhayev, wrote on his Facebook page. At the same time, he later said that as of the morning of March 1, the city was still under the control of Kyiv.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on the blocking of Kherson on the morning of February 27th. The representative of the department, Igor Konashenkov, argued that the military did not strike at cities and took all measures to save the lives of civilians.

Kharkiv authorities reported dead civilians

On the morning of March 1, the authorities in Kharkiv announced that the building of the regional administration on Svobody Square had been shelled. A video of a powerful explosion near the administration building and its consequences appeared on social networks. The moment of the attack was also shown on his Telegram channel by Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko.

According to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, six people, including a child, were injured during the shelling. A day earlier, on February 28, the city authorities reported at least 11 dead and dozens injured as a result of the shelling of residential areas of Kharkiv by Russian troops.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the shelling of Kharkiv is a “war crime” that will be followed by an international tribunal. In a video message posted on the presidential office’s Telegram channel, Zelensky called on the international community to “immediately and effectively” respond to Russia’s actions and recognize them as an act of “state terrorism.”

“History repeats itself” – Zelensky on the shelling of Babi Yar

On March 1, in the afternoon, the Russian army shelled a TV tower in Kyiv, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reported. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported five dead and five injured as a result of this shelling.

Head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office Andriy Yermak declaredthat the rocket hit Babi Yar, where there is a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. The President of Ukraine also confirmed the explosion on the territory of Babi Yar. “Why repeat ‘never again’ for 80 years if the world remains silent when the bomb falls on Babi Yar? Another five lives have been lost. History repeats itself,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, satellite images taken on February 28 showed a 60-kilometer convoy of Russian military vehicles northwest of Kyiv. The column stretched from the approaches to the Gostomel airfield in the south (25 km from the center of Kyiv) to the outskirts of the village of Pribirsk in the north, the American satellite company Maxar reported. Fears are growing in Ukraine about impending new massive attacks by Russian troops on Kyiv and other cities in the country.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday once again stated that “strike is inflicted only on military targets and exclusively with high-precision weapons.” The grouping of the Russian armed forces, according to him, “will continue to conduct a special military operation until the set goals are achieved.”
