Russian newspaper: Agreements for wheat exports from Ukraine mediated and assisted by Turkey

by time news

The Russian newspaper Iustustia reports according to sources in the Kremlin that Russia and Ukraine have managed to reach an agreement through Turkish mediation regarding the creation of a safe corridor for the export of grain through the port of Odessa.

The issue of grain exports from Ukraine has raised concerns about the outbreak of famine in some countries around the world due to their high dependence on Ukrainian and Russian production. The issue even came up in Putin’s talks with a number of world leaders due to the high sensitivity of the issue and was discussed at the UN.

A report in the Russian newspaper has no confirmation from other sources, but it was quoted in the Spanish economic newspaper Al Okonomista. According to the reported agreement, the Turkish navy will clear naval mines from the territorial waters of Ukraine and any other explosives, and will escort the cargo ships until they reach neutral waters. Currently, the agreement only applies to the port of Odessa.

“The Turkish army will evacuate the coastal area from explosives in the Odessa area. The cargo ships departed from the port accompanied by Turkish ships to the neutral waters of the Black Sea. .

The agreement, the drafting of which also involved the UN, is expected to be announced towards the middle of the week at a meeting of Russian foreign and defense ministers who will meet with their counterparts in the Turkish capital on June 8 and 9.

Prices of wheat and other grains have recently skyrocketed in the face of geopolitical tensions and fears that the nation is hurting exports from Russia and Ukraine, which are responsible for much of global exports. Ukraine exported 9% of the world’s exported quantity last year, and is the fifth largest in this respect. There are now about 22.5 million tons of grain imprisoned in Ukrainian ports without the ability to leave the country.
